Madan Krishna Shrestha, born on January 7, 2007, in Kathmandu, Nepal, is a prominent figure in the Nepali entertainment industry. As a versatile actor, he has made significant contributions to comedy, television, and radio. He is best known for his collaboration with fellow artist Hari Bansha Acharya, with whom he created memorable comic programs and films. Throughout his career, Madan Krishna has earned respect not only for his talent but also for his deep connection to his roots and his active participation in social causes.

Early Life and Education 

Madan Krishna Shrestha was born to Ram Krishna Lal Shrestha and Laxmi Devi Shrestha. Tragically, he lost his mother when he was only six months old, and was raised by his father, who later remarried. Shrestha spent his childhood in the Jaipur area of Kathmandu, where he developed a sociable nature and a love for music and acting. He attended several schools due to frequent relocations, including Bishojyoti School, Jitpur School, and Padmodaya Higher Secondary School, before completing his SLC at Shanti Nikunja School. Although he continued his education at Mahendra Ratna Campus and later enrolled in a private B.Com program, Shrestha’s passion for acting led him to prioritize his career over further academic pursuits.

Career Beginnings and Struggles 

Madan Krishna Shrestha’s passion for performance started early. In 2023 B.S., he began his career with Radio Nepal as a singer, where he also showcased his skills with musical instruments such as the harmonium and Madal. In 2026 B.S., he won a Newari song competition, earning recognition and setting the stage for his future in the entertainment industry. By the age of 16, he participated in a BBC-organized training program that enhanced his skills in broadcasting, allowing him to host programs for several years.

Collaboration with Hari Bansha Acharya

A turning point in Shrestha's career came when he met Hari Bansha Acharya, who became his close friend and collaborator. Together, they created a series of iconic comic programs, including Gai Jatra and Yamlok, which solidified their status as leading figures in Nepali entertainment. Their partnership extended to films and telefilms such as Basudev and Ke Ghar Ke Daraa, along with an impressive portfolio of 376 advertisements.

Social Contributions 

Madan Krishna Shrestha is not only known for his artistic achievements but also for his contributions to social causes. During the 2062/2063 movement for democratic restoration in Nepal, he played an active role in raising funds for casualties, helping collect around 2 crores and 55 lakhs. Additionally, he made a personal donation of 10,000 to the family of Padam Thakur, a victim of gun violence during the same period.

Shrestha has been an outspoken critic of Nepal’s political landscape, frequently voicing his concerns about the adverse impact of politics on the nation's progress and citizens' rights. He advocates for peace, equality, and development, and encourages the public to prioritize the welfare of the nation over political divides.

Personal Life and Interests 

In his personal life, Madan Krishna Shrestha was married to Yasoda Shrestha, whom he met through their mutual employment at the Employees Provident Fund Office. The couple shared a deep bond for 34 years until Yasoda passed away from cancer on April 1, 2074. Despite the pain of his loss, Shrestha fondly remembers Yasoda as a loving and patient partner. He maintains a vegetarian diet and avoids alcohol. His personal interests include football, cricket, and a deep admiration for King Birendra and actor Hari Bansha Acharya.

Today, Madan Krishna Shrestha remains an enduring icon in Nepali comedy, celebrated for his artistic legacy, social contributions, and personal resilience. His contributions to the Nepali film and television industry continue to inspire new generations of performers.
