Durga Prasai, born on Baisakh 22, 2028 B.S. in Atharai, Tehrathum, has built a remarkable career through hard work and strategic investments. Initially involved in buffalo rearing and exporting milk to both national and international markets, Prasai’s entrepreneurial journey expanded into several diverse industries. Currently, he is the owner of the B&C Medical College and Research Center in Birtamode, Jhapa, and serves as the Director of Purbanchal Cancer Hospital. In addition to his contributions in healthcare, he is constructing a five-star hotel, Dwarika's Inn, in Britabazar. He has also made significant investments in real estate, such as Shubham Colony, Marsi Premium Lager Beer, and organic farming, which have cemented his status as a prominent businessman in Nepal.
Durga Prasai's early life was humble. His family, originally from the eastern hills, migrated to Jhapa, where they lived in Arjundhara, near the Nagar Palika bus park. With a middle-class background and subsistence farming as their livelihood, Prasai's family managed to meet their basic needs. Despite his middle-class background, his wife, hailing from a wealthy family, sought her rightful share of her father's estate, leading to a legal battle. However, after leveraging Maoist influence, Prasai secured the property, marking the beginning of his political involvement and rise to prominence.
Before venturing into business and politics, Prasai worked as a blacksmith and later traveled to Europe, where he learned new farming techniques. He applied these skills upon his return to Nepal, where he started a buffalo-rearing business. Though the venture ultimately failed, Prasai's resilience led him to enter politics and leverage his family’s property, especially with the Maoist party’s support. This move eventually resulted in the establishment of B&C Hospital in Jhapa.

Initially involved with the Maoists, he later aligned himself with the Nepali Congress and became closely associated with Prachanda.
