Kurt Suzuki Becomes Angels’ First Hawaiian-Born Manager

In a historic move, the Los Angeles Angels have named Kurt Suzuki as their new manager as of October 22, 2025. The former Major League Baseball catcher, who enjoyed a 16-season playing career, becomes the first Hawaiian-born full-time manager in MLB history.

Suzuki’s impressive career includes winning the 2019 World Series with the Washington Nationals and earning an All-Star selection in 2014. Before his professional days, he also led Cal State Fullerton to a College World Series title in 2004, where he won the Johnny Bench Award as the nation’s top catcher.

Throughout his MLB journey, Suzuki played 1,635 games, recording a .255 batting average, 1,421 hits, 143 home runs, and 730 RBIs.

His playing career spanned several teams, including the Athletics, Nationals, Twins, Braves, and Angels, and now, he returns to Anaheim, this time leading from the dugout.
