Rajesh Hamal is one of the biggest names in the Nepali film industry. Known as the "Maha Nayak" or "Great Actor" of Nepal, he has been a part of the film world for over 30 years. With his powerful acting, good looks, and dedication, he has changed the face of Nepali cinema.

Early Life and Education

Rajesh Hamal was born on June 4, 1964, in Tansen, Nepal. His father was a diplomat, and young Hamal traveled to Russia with him during his teenage years. Later, he moved to India for his higher education. He completed his Master’s degree in English Literature from Punjab University in Lahore.

From Model to Movie Star

Before acting, Hamal worked as a model in India. He quickly became one of the most popular male models in the late 1980s. He even appeared in top fashion magazines and walked in fashion shows in Kathmandu and New Delhi.

His career took a major turn when he got his first acting role in the film Yug Dekhi Yug Samma in 1989. Directed by his uncle, Deepak Raymajhi, the film was a big hit. Hamal’s performance impressed everyone, and he won Best Debut Actor that year.

After his debut, Rajesh Hamal never looked back. He acted in more than 230 films, including hits like:

  • Deuta (1992) – one of his most loved roles, winning him a Best Actor Award

He was known for playing many different roles—from romantic heroes to action stars and even comic characters.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he won multiple Best Actor Awards, including honors from the National Film Awards of Nepal. In 2000, he was declared Best Actor of the Decade.

TV Shows and Advertisements

Besides films, Rajesh Hamal also appeared on Nepali television shows like Wai Wai Quiz Whiz and Meri Bassai. He also became a brand ambassador for many products including soap, cement, and financial companies.

Personal Life and Marriage

Rajesh Hamal married Madhu Bhattarai in May 2014 at the age of 50. The couple does not have any children yet. Despite being a public figure, Hamal has kept his personal life very private.

Social Work and Earthquake Relief

After the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, Hamal played a key role in helping the country recover. He became a Goodwill Ambassador for the Building Back Right initiative, supported by Oxfam, to help women and children rebuild their lives.

Over the years, Rajesh Hamal has received many awards not only for acting but also for his contributions to society. He has been honored by the Nepalese government, Human Rights Commission, and even received a National Citizen Golden Award.
